Roselawn Lawn Bowling Club is situated in Gage Park (Lawrence Rd Enterance) in the East End of Hamilton. It is part of the Onatrio Lawn Bowling Assn District 5.
Visitors from other clubs often admire the setting at the base of the escarpment as they enjoy getting some exercise in friendly competition.
Lawn Bowling is often compared to curling in that the idea is to get bowls nearest to spot than your opponents. A white ball (called a jack) is thrown to establish the target, then each team tries to out bowl the other. The tricky part is that the balls are not round and are weighted to one side so they don't roll straight. The art of the game is judging the path of the ball needed to arrive where needed. This varies according to the distance of the jack, and the weather conditions. For more detailed information on rules, contact Ontario Lawn Assn at www.olb.ca
This game is a lot less formal than in the past, casual dress for most bowling, but some tournaments require teams to be dressed alike.
The Roselawn Lawn Bowling Club started in 1925. It has two regulation sized greens in Gage Park, readily accessible by Public Transportation. We welcome new players to try the sport with the use of club bowls. The only requirement is FLAT Soled shoes so the greens are not disturbed.
The registration fee is $120 and allows you to bowl from May to October and enables you to play in casual games or tournaments as you desire. Attitudes have changed in the 91 years of Roselawn's history, it is no longer a slow game for old folks who wear white. Nowadays, colourful clothes and bowls are used by players of all ages. There are social activities and events at Roselawn as well as a chance to view memorabilia in our quaint Clubhouse
